Privacy Policy

LastRide (帰り時, “the app”) works without an account. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Stored on your phone

• Saved destinations: the station’s name and area, and the text of an address if you add one. Their map positions are not kept long-term; they are looked up again when needed and kept for that night only (cleared at 4:00 AM).
• A “tonight only” station (cleared the next day).
• Your settings: language, time to spare, reminders and alarms, night location.
• Tonight’s plan, deleted or replaced once the night is over.

The app keeps no movement history and no record of past nights.

Location

Used to find nearby stations and walking times and to work out when to leave. Only if you choose “When closed” for night location is location used while the app is closed; tracking stops by itself after the last train (by 4:00 AM at the latest). You can switch to app-only at any time or revoke location access in iPhone Settings.

Maps and timetables

On iPhone, nearby stations, walking times, addresses, nearby places, taxi times, and JR and private-railway times come from Apple Maps, so your location and searches are sent to Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. Subway times are calculated by our server from Public Transportation Open Data Center data, so the departure and arrival stations (names and positions) are sent to our server. On Android your location is also sent to our server to find nearby stations. These are used for the calculation only and are not stored against you.

Groups

When you join a group, our server stores the group name, the display name you choose for it, whether you are the host or a member, your notification language and on/off setting, a push token, a random membership token (stored one-way), and when your app last contacted the group. On nights you choose “Join tonight”, only your leave-by time (and a “missed it” report) is sent; members see your display name and leave-by time. Your location, home, station and route are never shared. Leave-by times are deleted at 8:00 AM Japan time the next morning or when the host ends tonight. Leaving deletes your membership at once; disbanding a group deletes everything in it.

Premium

Purchases, billing and refunds are handled by Apple’s App Store; we never receive your card details. Subscription status is managed with RevenueCat under an anonymous user ID, not your name or email. When you create a group, our server checks your subscription with that ID but does not store it.

Notifications, alarms and widgets

Reminders and alarms are scheduled on your phone. Widgets and the lock-screen countdown (Live Activity) show tonight’s leave time from your phone only. Group notifications are delivered through Expo’s push service and Apple’s notification service. Notifications never contain advertising.

Crash reports

To fix bugs, the app may send the error, app version and device/OS model to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.). Reports never include your location, destinations, stations, searches or display name, and are deleted after 90 days.

Our server, logs and providers

Train-time, station and estimate requests are answered from our own data and not stored. Server logs record the endpoint and result, not query parameters containing locations or searches. The server runs on Amazon Web Services (Tokyo); group data is stored with Neon. Except where required by law, we do not share personal data with third parties without consent; the providers above (Apple, RevenueCat, Expo, Sentry, Amazon Web Services, Neon) receive only what each feature needs. Some are located outside Japan (for example in the United States).

Your choices and contact

Deleting the app erases all of LastRide’s data on your phone. “Reset & start over” in Settings also erases it and leaves your groups (a host hands the role to the longest-standing member, and a group with nobody else in it is deleted). Deleting the app can’t tell our server, so group data is deleted automatically once your app hasn’t contacted the group for 6 months (30 days if notifications can no longer reach your phone). To remove it straight away, leave your groups from their “…” menu before deleting the app. For requests to disclose, correct or delete personal data, or any privacy question, contact support@lastride.jp.

Children and changes

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data. Changes to this policy will be published on this page with a new date.
